28 Dec Happy Tail for Tinsel!
As a foster home for 4 Luv of Dog Rescue we open our home and hearts for dogs in need. In the 1 1/2 years of fostering we have had 8 dogs grace our lives. We treat these dogs like they are our own. They learn our rules. They learn our routine and most importantly they learn that someone loves them. Unconditionally. We love them for who they are and ask nothing in return. Many people ask how we do it. How do we love a dog, live with a dog knowing one day it will find it’s forever home and how do we live with the sadness when it is time to let this dog go? This is probably the easiest question to answer in the world of dog rescue. You see, the true sadness is a dog who doesn’t have a home, a dog living in a shelter, wondering when their “time is up”, the forgotten dog. Are there tears shed when they leave us, when we pack up their doggy gear and bring them to their forever home? Yes, because we know our job has been done successfully. Tears of joy. Like a parent sending their child off to college, we wish for them the best and hope they remember everything we have taught them.
And while they are off enjoying their new life, their new family, they are not forgotten by us, for they have left a paw print in our hearts. Have we ever failed? Yes! Our FOSTER FAIL is Tinsel! We fostered Tinsel for 9 months and in that time we often asked ourselves why she was being passed over. Other great dogs had found their home. Why not Tinsel? She was THE HAPPIEST dog we had ever met!
She was obedient, loving, well mannered. A great sister to our dog Daisy and cat Apple. Tinsel was a perfect fit for any family. It seemed there was no explanation why she hadn’t found her forever home. Our AH-HA moment came in October 2011 when we heard there was an applicant interested in meeting Tinsel. OUR Tinsel? Someone wanted to meet OUR Tinsel? Tinsel who taught us that happiness is infectious? While some things can’t be explained, the feelings we had were evident, Tinsel HAD found her home. It was right here, with us, the entire time! Tinsel is our BFF. Remember the “Best Friends Forever” necklace you gave your childhood friend with the heart split in two? You wore one and your best friend wore the other. Well, Tinsel has the half of our heart. She is our best friend. Forever. A true companion with a heart that had room for us, we often ask, “Who rescued who?”.
XOXO,
Mike, Susie, Daisy, Tinsel and Apple
