Happy Tail for Tillie

Happy Tail for Tillie

This Happy Tail has taken awhile to write because to be honest, it still hurts.  But if it convinces someone else to adopt a dog, it’ sall worth it.  What I love about this rescue is that my kids can be involved, they have been to the pounds, made bandanas for the dogs, been toadoption days. They see first hand what homeless dogs look like.  They know all the dogs on the website and of course there is Dottie who we got from the rescue last year.

We volunteered to run Tillie back and forth to several vet appointments. She melted our hearts and we knew she was meant to live in our home.  She was old and had health problems, we knew this from the get-go, but we didn’t care.  We loved her for who she was!  She made herself at home right away.  She loved to chase the kids and our other dogs. She went everywhere with us!  One day we peeked in her mouth and found alarge tumor which ended up being cancer.  The tumor was removed and we decided to just keep her comfortable and let Tillie tell us when it was time.  About 2 weeks after that she let us know, and she went to Rainbow Bridge.

So Tillie lived with us for 3 months.  She was extremely loved by her foster mom (thanks Jamie) and by our family the last few months of her life.  She was the best dog ever.  See, in this house it doesn’t matter if you can’t see well, don’t have any teeth, need your food chopped into tiny bits, can’t really hear, your kidneys don’t work the best and you are old.  You will still be loved.  Iam proud to be a part of this wonderful rescue, because as Tillie was a minority because she had some health problems, she was still given a chance.  Most dogs in the rescue are healthy and happy and just waiting for their forever homes, but there are some with special needs who are given equal chances too.

So does being involved in rescue hurt sometimes?  Yes.  Will we adopt again?  Absolutely.
