25 Mar Happy Tail for Spar
Spar has been an indispensable member of my house and family for over a decade. At 15 years old, he’s lived a long and happy life, and I’m so grateful for that. While he’s more of a couch potato these days, he’s never lost his excitement for mornings, car rides, walks, and meals. He’s doing incredibly well for a dog his age.
I brought Spar home in 2014. Part greyhound and part border collie, he’s very intelligent and was quite the athlete. It didn’t take him long to learn basic commands. He’s always been a quick study when you can hold his attention. And in his prime, boy, could he run and jump! It was go, go, go until you emptied the greyhound tank. The area landfills are full of chewed-up tennis balls and de-stuffed toys that were no match for his teeth and energy.
Spar has always been a good traveling buddy. He’s right at home in his spot in the back seat, which has allowed me to bring him with on many trips to the Twin Cities, Lake of the Woods, Brainerd and even Chicago once.
He’s a wild child outside, barking at squirrels, turkeys, neighbors, or any perceived threat. It’s the best sign that his vision remains in tip-top shape. But in the house, he lets his guard down. He’s quiet, playful, and affectionate to everyone, whether they want their hands licked or not. I’ve been fortunate to be able to work from home over the last few years, which has allowed me to spend even more time with him.
Adopting Spar was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’m grateful for everything 4 Luv of Dog Rescue does for these animals and for our community.
