Foster Home Feedback
Building Volunteer Feedback 3/20/25: Schmitty demonstrated remarkable progress tonight. Notably, barking only upon entering the kennel room, where other dogs were vocalizing—a significant improvement in a high-stimulation environment.
Schmitty would greatly benefit from a calm and confident handler in a home setting, providing the reassurance and structure he needs to continue building his confidence.
Building Volunteer Feedback 3/13/25: Schmitty is currently working on building his confidence at the shelter. He can sometimes become startled by unexpected or unfamiliar stimuli, such as misplaced objects, other dogs barking, or chairs being moved. To help Schmitty acclimate, efforts are being made to gradually expose him to these triggers in a controlled and positive manner, with the goal of reducing his reactive barking over time.
While he does not particularly enjoy being confined to his kennel and may vocalize his dissatisfaction, Schmitty thrives in the shelter's back run, where he can enjoy frolicking in the cool weather for extended periods. A large and intelligent dog, Schmitty demonstrates a strong affinity for treats, making training sessions more effective and engaging.
