11/16/24 Foster Feedback: Gumbo has been through a lot of changes in his life. He is a sweet guy who deserves the best! Gumbo is a pretty typical dachshund. He has lots to say when someone knocks on the door. He is working on potty training routine, he does well most of the time and has only had a couple accidents in the house, he does not always like to go every tie and is typically going potty only twice a day. Structure and routine will help him figure it out. Gumbo is a little nervous when meeting new people, but once he warms up he is full of snuggles and personality. He does not seem to mind our 2 large dogs but has not been interested in playing with them. Gumbo is still working on sleeping in a crate, he did bark initially when he was placed in it, but now that we have switched to a plastic crate and a blanket over it at night he does well. Gumbo would likely be best with older considerate kids and may be a bit loud for an apartment.
It took Gumbo quite a few days to settle into our home and needed soft food added to his kibble to coax him to eat. I imagine that this will improve as he settles into his home.
Gumbo has become a sweet funny boy and will make a wonderful companion for someone who is patient and gives him the time to thrive.
